Frequently Asked Questions. Please contact us, in case you can't find the answer to your question below.

Where is Crete and Makrigialos located?
Crete is the largest and most southern of the Greek Islands, and the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean, with a population of about 624,000 people. Crete is renowned for its beautiful sandy shores, magnificent mountains, quiet fishing villages and friendly people. The town of Makrigialos (official spelling: Makry-Gialos) is an outstanding example of the beauty that ensures a thriving tourist industry for the area and a welcome unmatched in Europe. The former "Dimos" (Municipality) of Makrys-Gialos stretched from the south coast resort of Agia Fotia in the west to the monastery of Moni Kapsa in the east, and from the southern Mediterean Sea to the 1200 metre high (4,000 ft) mountains of Orno Oros in the north. It lies in the south east corner of Crete, and is the southernmost tourist area in Europe.

How do I get to Crete?
There are many direct flights to Crete from all major airports in Europe.

The main port of entry is Heraklion, and direct flights operate to there from many UK and continental European airports during the summer season (approximately April to October).

Outside of the summer season, the only flights available to Heraklion are via Athens. There is also a year-round option to connect via Athens to Sitia domestic airport.

Airport transfers to Makrigialos can be arranged with private taxi (up to 4 people sharing) for around Euro 120 one way, private minibus (up to 8 people sharing) for about 240 one way, rented car for about Euro 35 to 40/day in the high season or public transport for Euro 16 per person.

We can help you with your car rental. We have excellent contacts with several reliable local car rental companies with good prices and excellent service.

For a more leisurely arrival in Crete, a number of ferry services are available. Direct services between Piraeus (the port of Athens, port code TZE) and Heraklion (HCR) are run by a number of companies. The service is frequent and comparatively fast, taking under seven hours. The most convenient port for Makrigialos is Sitia (port code SIT), around a thirty minute drive away from Bayview on the north coast.

For those who are completely averse to air travel, it is possible to reach Makrigialos overland from for instance the UK in 5 days, using trains, ferries and busses.

Do your properties have air conditioning?
All our bedrooms and living rooms in the new part of Bayview (Bayview phase 2) have air conditioning and no additional costs are charged for the use of it. All houses do have an open design so that there is a constant breeze that keeps the house cool. There are fans in the bedrooms that in most cases are sufficient enough to leave out the air conditioning.

Is there close access from Bayview to the beach near by?
Yes, and it’s only a few minutes walk to Lagada and a bit further to Diaskari Beach, just opposite Bayview. The latter with sun beds and hammocks shaded by pergolas available, courtesy of the small and excellent traditional taverna located at the western end. Further still, by taking the road to Kalo Nero, you will reach Amathi beach and several other small coves and undiscovered beaches which are often deserted, although there are no facilities on these beaches.
